Lead Data Engineer

Brivo is looking for a highly creative, passionate, and skilled Lead Data Engineer, you will lead a team that leverages Brivo's big data platform and data warehouse to build data analytics, reporting, data visualization and machine learning.
In this role, you will help to build the data science team, mentor, and motivate team members on cutting edge big data technology and best practices.
For this role, we are seeking candidates that are open to traveling to our Bethesda, MD office 1-2 times a quarter (every three months).
In this role you are expected:
Code 50% of your time, designing solutions, and participating in code reviews Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to design and deliver high-quality features to production Work within an Agile team to complete code reviews, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and feature reviews Define quarterly project requirements by tracking milestones, communicating blockers and ensuring progress Display deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, data manipulation strategies, data modeling, data pipelines, data services, and workflows Lead team projects and initiatives from inception to rollout managing cross-team dependencies while keeping overall customer SLA top of mind Collaborate with the QA team to assure product quality Partner with other team leads to support the company's mission through architectural and technical improvement while taking ownership of the applications you work on Mentor team members to improve processes and promote the best practices About the TeamThe Data Science Team helps Brivo customers derive analytics and reporting solutions to glean insights, satisfy auditing requirements, and identify significant events from the data obtained from our access control system.
We develop solutions ranging from embedded and native reporting and analytics applications as well as anomaly detection and event classification models.

About You 5
years of work experience with a combination of engineering data analysis solutions such as ML model deployments and data analytics pipelines 3
years of experience working on data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift or similar 3
years of experience operating production workloads on PostgreSQL (preferred) or MySQL databases 3
years of experience with open source data technologies (Spark, Kafka, Presto, Hive, etc.
) 2
years of experience in architecting and building scalable data platforms processing data on a terabyte or petabyte scale 3
years experience managing ETL pipelines with tools such as Fivetran, Airflow, Talend, etc.

years of experience with AWS - EMR, Aurora, Lambda, Kinesis, S3, EC2 Experience leading teams of 3
engineers Familiarity with agile principles including but not limited to Scrum meetings and mechanics including effective prioritization to deliver on time Proficient in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and Java Good understanding of modern data structures and business intelligence reporting tools and track record of applying those to build a system Intellectually curious about emerging technologies with the ability to turn that into reasonable working solutions Excellent communication skills and dynamic team player Experience working with Jenkins or similar CI tooling Ability to work in the EST time zone Optional experience to make you stand out:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
