The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Disease Prevention (ODP) is recruiting two individuals with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, research design, or a related specialized area of scientific training to serve as a Public Health Analyst. Located in the Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives within the Office of the Director, ODP''s mission is to improve the public health by increasing the scope, quality, dissemination, and impact of prevention research supported by the NIH. The ODP Strategic Plan outlines a variety of activities designed to address the mission of the office. These activities represent a significant increase in the breadth and depth of the work of the office. /.
The incumbent will utilize his/her scientific and program development expertise to lead the implementation of key components of the strategic plan. For example, the incumbent will identify and design research initiatives in disease prevention, strengthen existing partnerships and build new ones, and develop creative strategies for advancing disease prevention in a variety of research areas. The ideal candidate would have extensive knowledge of the prevention research community both inside and outside of the NIH and be able to leverage this network to promote collaborative research and outreach programs.
The position is being announced at the GS-12 and 13, Public Health Analyst. Ideal candidates may have a MPH, Ph.D. or equivalent degree with experience in the design and analytic methods used in disease prevention research. Experience with the development of partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and the coordination of funding opportunity announcements is desirable. Candidates with strong writing, communication and interpersonal skills are sought.
Time in grade met within 30 days of closing date. Position is subject to a background investigation. All supporting documents must be received by announcement closing date.
As a Public Health Analyst, your duties will include:
Develop and implement activities designed to assist with ongoing strategic planning, including development of portfolio analysis tools, promoting the use of the best available methods in prevention research, assessment of current activities, knowledge gaps, criteria for setting program priorities, partnership development, and future strategies relating to disease prevention.
Plan, initiate, monitor, and conduct analyses necessary to provide a rational basis for key policy and program decisions related to disease prevention methodology and research within ODP and at the NIH.
Conduct literature reviews to examine the current state of prevention research and prepare reports summarizing and synthesizing the body of work.
Prepare, present, and disseminate information about advances in promising new approaches and developments in disease prevention.
Arrange seminars and workshops to assess the current state-of-the science of disease prevention and facilitate collaborative efforts with NIH Institutes and Centers, and other governmental and non-governmental agencies.
_To qualify at the GS-12 level_, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing qualitative and quantitative methods and strategies for planning, evaluating, and documenting program activities; monitoring progress and assisting in achieving specific or overall public health program objectives; assisting with developing data collection instruments, instructions, and other substantive resources and analyzing the resulting data.

To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Conducting short and long term planning, program development, policy and program analysis, and program evaluations; establishing program standards, policies, strategies, goals, and evaluation plans; collecting and interpreting data and information from a variety of sources and preparing recommendations accordingly.In describing your experience, please BE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC.
