Description/Job Summary
Summary:The eHealth Solutions Clinical Informaticist is responsible for maintaining the integrity of existing drug information databases; in the development of clinical and referential applications of the databases; in the implementation and management of coding mechanisms that foster data granularity, application, exchange and portability as well as linkages with other related ASHP and extramural databases; supports the implementation and management of databases and other computer tools that apply to management of database production and editorial activities; and further develops derivative products from the ASHP databases.
The scope of responsibility covers all ASHP drug information and associated pharmacy information databases, with principal emphasis on the AHFS (AHFS Drug Information AHFS DI , AHFS DI Essentials, AHFS Consumer Medication Information AHFS CMI ), and Handbook on Injectable Drugs (HID) databases. The Clinical Informaticist assists in controlling and enhancing the AHFS databases and pharmacy information databases.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
-Works with the eHealth Solutions team as a clinical informatics expert and resource for the AHFS family of databases, the Handbook of Injectable Drugs (HID) and other digital content.
-Identifies new product development and enhancement opportunities for the digital product line.
-Analyzes opportunities for product and services development, leveraging expertise in the use of drug databases in the public domain and medical informatics standards.
-Participates in the electronic applications development process.
-Advises and supports editorial and production staffs regarding ongoing maintenance of the integrity, consistency and applicability of the ASHP
databases.
-Develops and maintains structural elements of the database that foster integration with state-of-the-art knowledge bases and expert systems and interoperability.
-Participates in the implementation and management of structural coding mechanisms (e.g., SGML, XML, HTML) that foster data granularity, application, exchange and portability as well as linkages with other related ASHP (e.g., AHFS CMI, HID, Drug Shortages) extramural (e.g., Epocrates, FDB Health, Medline Plus, Structured Product Labeling (SPL), DailyMed, RxNorm, Drugs@FDA) databases and production in various commercially viable formats (print, online, mobile).
-Participates in the implementation and maintenance of conceptual tagging mechanisms (e.g., Unified Medical Language System, SNOMED, ICD) that foster
data granularity, application and exchange as well as linkages with other related ASHP (e.g., AHFS CMI, Handbook on Injectable Drugs) and extramural (e.g., FDB
Health) databases.
-Identifies and troubleshoots problems in ASHP database data structure.
-Maintains, processes and uploads the weekly and monthly data updates provided to vendors (including FDA MedWatch Alerts).
-Ensures contemporaneity of the AHFS DI and related database's structure and coding and makes recommendations and improvements.
-Ensures that AHFS DI and related databases meet all applicable standards (e.g.,HL7, NCPDP) for data interchange.
-Reviews current medical informatics literature in relation to ASHP database production and development activities.
-Furthers the development of clinical and referential applications of ASHP databases.
-Participates in developing and implementing electronic mechanisms for appropriate archival documentation and establishment of permanent files.
-Answers inquiries concerning ASHP's database structures and contents.
-Attends various meetings, intramural and extramural, as required.
-Reviews circulating correspondence, Board of Directors mailings, memoranda, etc., to keep abreast of current Society activities.
-Suggests improvements in procedures, methods and costs.
-Develops instructions and procedures for implementing changes in methods.
-Suggests and develops new revenue generating projects or products.
-Participates in long-range planning activities.
